Activation and Deactivation errors for Digital Editions in 2021 on iMac

I have a new iMac. Online trouble shooting instructions for deactivating Adobe Digital Editions in order to reactivate it do not work: There is Adobe Digital Editions folder with this name in my Application Support folder. I see someone else posted the same question with an update request in August 2021 and it has not been answered. I have called Adobe Support, which cannot help, but has "escalated" this issue. I hope that someone will respond soon.
