ADE 2.0 completes download but doesnt install or launch on new computer using windows 8 os

I just get the message in the yellow box that the installer download has completed but nothing else happens

    Which operating system?

    If Vista, see hint at top of the forum:

    If you are installing Adobe Digital Editions on Windows Vista please see Installing Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 in Windows Vista - http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/installing-digital-editions -20-windows.html for a workaround to allow the installation.

    If XP, try installing V1.7.2 instead.

    A lot of people have been having similar issues on XP with ADE2.0 (as well as several other problems with it as well).

    I suggest installing the older version 1.7.2  which seems more reliable.

    Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

    I am using windows 8, will the older version of ade work on it, thank you for any help.

    Yes it will.  I'm using 1.7.2 on Windows 8 with no problems.

    I think I may have given unhelpful information though; I misread your original message.

    It looks as if you didn't even get to start the install.

    It depends on your browser, but usually when you download a file and the download is complete,

    you then need to click on it to run the file.

    Or, alternatively, you might go to your Downloads directory in Windows Explorer and double-click on 'ADE_2.0_Installer.exe'
