ADE 4.5.5 does not open on MacOs Sierra 10.12.5

I´m using the latest operating system on my Macbook pro and have successfully downloaded the latest version of Adobe Digital Editions for Mac.

When downloading newspapers from my public library, the download bar goes all the way through to the end - and then freezes.

What can I do? (ADE works perfectly on my android devices.)
