ADE 4.5 freezes while downloading borrowed book from Overdrive

Downloaded books from Overdrive public library won't complete the download process in Adobe Digital Edition 4.5 on a PC running Windows 10.The suggested fix to change the ASCM association to ADE 4.5 didn't fix the problem.
