ADE authorization problems with Kobo eReader

I have Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 on my Windows laptop. I have a Kobo eReader which is authorized under the same Adobe ID as my laptop, and the date and time are correct. I have borrowed an EPUB novel from my public library via OverDrive. This appears in my ADE library, I have transferred it to my Kobo. When I try to open the novel on my Kobo, the error message says "This document is protected by Adobe DRM and is not currently authorized for use with your Adobe ID." I have tried restarting both devices, deauthorizing and reauthorizing my Kobo, uninstalling and installing the novel. When I try to deauthorize my computer, using CTRL-Shift-D, nothing happens. I'm not sure if there is another way to do this. Also, I purchased my Kobo used, so there may have been a previous Adobe ID used on it, but it is currently authorized using my ID.
