Finally got 4.51 to open. Next problem: E_adept_request_expired. Here's what I've done:

1. uninstall ADE

2. export Adept reg key

3. delete same reg key

4. reboot

5. re-install 4.5 as admin; install details show "completed"

6. open ADE, library view

7. ctrl-shift-D to delete activation; no message, so not activated

8. associate acsm and epub files with ADE

9. download NEWLY requested epub library book, today's date, time and time zone

10. click on acsm file: opens ADE and requests authorization

11. attempt with Adobe ID and Overdrive ID: error msg: E_adept_request_expired

12. authorize without ID doesn't work

13. create Adobe ID and I forgot password don't work and freezes the app.

I can manually add an epub book and read it in ADE, no problem, so the program is working, the activation seems to be blocked, probably on my end.

What step can I next try?

thanks,

    Correct answer Nanaky

I meant sign up FOR a new ID and password.

If you get still E_adept_request_expired should check the time, date and the timezone of your system.

    After installation the registry shows:

    Adobe Digital Editions

      default value not set

      LatestAvailableVersion 4.5.1

      LatestInstalledVersion 4.5.1

    Adobe Digital Editions 4.5

      default value not set

ConfigPath, EnableAutoUpdate, Features1-4, FeaturesPath, ReaderState, UpdaterPath

    Digital Editions

      default, InstallPath

I believe my prior registration had info about my pc being recognized?

OK, time for the pros to come to my rescue!

    thanks,

    Gary

I've found this: users>name>roaming>Adept. There are two dat files, one for 2014 and one for 2015.

Might I delete these and retry authorization?

If that doesn't work, uninstall 4.5, reinstall and retry authorization?

I deleted the above Adept files- didn't help-

    Uninstalled ADE

    Ran chkdsk and sfc repairs

Reinstalled ADE- the program works but authorization does not.

The program won't let me choose a NEW email and password. Any idea how I can do this?

Also still can't register with Overdrive ID/ password.
