ADE crashing when authorizing NOOK

I have previously used ADE and my NOOK Glowlight Plus for a few years.  Just recently, ADE will not allow me to reauthorize my NOOK.  My NOOK pops up on the ADE screen when I plug it in but then when I try to authorize it, it crashes.  I have contacted NOOK support and they say the only option is to re-authorize the device.  Does anyone have any tips for this? I am appalled by how ridiculous this has been to try and get ANY help from Adobe since I don't have a paid subscription with them.  Any help would be much appreciated!!
