ADE doesn't recognise my Nook ereader. I have a Mac Air. Can anyone help?

ADE doesn't recognise my Nook ie, there is no device listed. Nor is the Nook visible on the Desktop (Mac Air). I've seen suggestions in earlier forum posts but nothing works so far. Help! I need to put more books on my Nook. Thanks in anticipation.

    With my old Nook, i found I had to connect it first to the computer, then start Digital editions.. Sometimes, I had to restart the Mac & then Nook & the Digital Editions
