ADE Error Message Authorization Service Error - Code E_Auth_Bad_Device_Key

I've tried everything.  I downloaded a book via overdrive.  The format is acsm.  When I open the book it brings me to ADE and wants me to authorize.  I try to sign in with both my adobe password and overdrive password and get the same message.

I've tried the Command, Shift, D to re-authorize but get no pop up window.

I've also gone into the key chain to change access for ADE.

I've discarded Adobe 3 times and re-downloaded new versions.

Nothing works.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Windows:

        Close all applications.

        Choose Start > Run.

In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

        Select the Adept key.

        Choose File > Export.

In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.

Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

        Close the Registry Editor.

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

    Macintosh:

        quit Adobe Digital Editions.

Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

If you are using 10.7, see https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

I had such high hopes.  I found the activation.dat file in the library, dragged to the trash.  Emptied the trash.  Tried again and same message.  Any other thoughts?  Thanks.

I am having the same issue as you are. I have also gone into keychain access and tried to change the access for ADE but digital editions did not show up on the list of applications. Then I found the file and moved it to the trash. I emptied the trash and tried to open ADE again and it gave me the same error message. I have spent well over 5 hours trying to figure out this issue.
