ADE removes formatting from ePub files?

I have been working on formatting an ePub and when I open the file in ADE all of the text formatting is gone.  All of my bold, italic, and small caps options have been removed entirely and just shows up as normal text.  All the formatting is solid and no errors.  I double checked with an ePub validator and it came back clear.  I've downloaded 3 other eReaders and the formatting shows up just fine in all of them.  ADE seems to be the only issue.  Is this something I can fix  or is it a bug in the software?
