ADE suddenly changed default reader to iBooks

I am suddenly unable to open ADE texts on my Mac (10.11.5). The default reader has become iBooks for some reason, and I always get a message saying the text can't be opened because "it is corrupt". I can't find anyplace where I can set default preferences so I can't read ADEs at all. Any suggestions?
