How can I transfer a book from my Mac to a desktop?

Copy whatever way you find most convenient.

USB stick, network share, or Dropbox come to mind.

If it is a DRM book, make sure you have both Mac and desktop authorized with the same Adobe ID.

Never use ADE in 'authorize this computer without ID' mode, or you won't be able to read the books after transfer.
