ADE will not open!

I've been using Adobe Digital Editions for a few years now, especially for ebooks from my public library via Overdrive. (I have a Kobo.) It's been fine for years, but now the program absolutely refuses to open when I click on it. I've tried opening as administrator. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It just will. not. work. I'm not aware of any other way to get Overdrive books onto my device. Did anyone find a fix that worked? I'm going to be really annoyed if I lose all access to my library books.

      Uninstalled 4.5.5, rebooted, installed 4.5.3 still failure.

      Uninstalled 4.5.3, rebooted, installed 4.0.0 still failure.

      Uninstalled 4.0.0, rebooted, installed 3.0.0 finally works.
