ade will not run on windows 8.1

I have installed/uninstalled  all versions of ADE on windows 8.1  sony vaio laptop. it used to work but will cause some flashing on the screen that's it.  What is going on?

    I downloaded an ade 1.702 version and guess what it works. I think we need a competing program by someone else because the new ADE is garbage.
