ADE won't authorise KOBO e-reader

I have a new computer, and have downloaded and authorised the PC for ADE.

However, I cannot authorise the e-reader, and when I right click on the spanner icon to do this either the software crashes, or all options to authorise are greyed out.  I have un-installed, then re-installed, re-authorised and restarted my PC.  Still the same issue.

How can I authorise the reader?
