Adobe digital and the .acsm file

I received a book for class, along with instructions on how to open the book. It instructed me to download "Adobe Digital Editions" and then open the link with it. However, it attempted to open it with my default "Word" program. When I try to change the default, it does not give me the option to use "Adobe Digital" (it doesn't show up). The same when I right click and try "open with". I have tried to re-install and still nothing. What can I do to get my text book?

Open Digital Edition.

Check if you authoirze the Digital Edition (help > computer authorize)

Go to File > Add to Library.
Choose the eBook.

Now it should open in Digital Editio.

    Has you authorize Digital Edition with the ID which was used for the eBook the first? If you get the eBook form a other person is can a other Adobe as your are in using.
