Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 error message - activation server

Hi,

I purchased ebooks from Elseiver bookstore, The view them I am required to download Adobe Digital Editions. This is done. However, I can not open the books.' Error message:Digital Editions is  Unable to connect to the activation server. Please check internet connection.'

internet is working, have uninstalled and reinstalled. checked Adobe ID and password correct.

Help, any ideas
