Adobe digital editions

i successfully downloaded adobe digital editions as my instructions gave to dowload my e-book. even though i have downloaded it my book will not dowload, when trying to open the download it does not find or recognize that adobe is on my computer. even when i try to find other applications when opening it still says "error this program does not exist" although i have it open and authenticated. why is this happening and how do i fix it?
