Adobe Digital Editions - Unauthorised file

I am having trouble being able to open a ebook downloaded I think as a unauthorised copy. I want to link this to an account but assume this is impossible now... the book cost money and now I am unable to use it with the flexibility I need. Very frustrating.

Is there anyone that can help solve this ... ?
