Adobe Digital Editions will not sync/read OverDrive E-Books

I downloaded both Adobe Digital Editions and OverDrive on Windows, and they are authorized to the same account. Yet when I download e-books on OverDrive as EPubs, they do not show up on Adobe Digital Editions, so I cannot download  them to an E-Reader. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/advice, thanks!
