adobe digital editions won't launch - long-time user, no previous issues

I've used ADE for several years with no problems until today.  ADE is installed on my computer but will not launch.  I have uninstalled and re-installed it several times, rebooted computer several times, and had no luck getting ADE to launch.  I use Windows 8.1.   I went to the help forum and noticed there were several people with this same issue waiting for answers/help, and never received it.  Thanks
