Adobe Digital Editions won't open after installation

I use Adobe Digital editions as librarian to download books from Netgalley. We removed some cookie files from the computer and ADE stopped working. I downloaded ADE from the Adobe website (most recent version), but after installation the program won't open. I contacted our computer tech support. They said the file from Adobe might be corrupt or maybe I needed an earlier version. I called Adobe and they said to check with Adobe Support community.  Any suggestions?

I forgot to add to my earlier question that I now have a new Adobe ID. I don't remember what the earlier one was. I download other ebooks to my Kindle and IPad and that still works.

I recently updated ADE to version 4.5.12.

It installed okay but it is badly broken. I can’t find my library, I can’t open any acsm files; it eventually hangs and can’t be closed.

I have tried deleting and reinstalling, including versions as far back a 4.5.3. Still have the same problems, more or less.

Did you get anywhere with your problem? Do you know of anyone who can help with this sort of problem?
