Adobe Digital Reader Editions won't run after system power failure

I installed Adobe Digital Reader Editions on my Windows 8 laptop and an ebook from the library.  I could read the book on my laptop with no problem.  My laptop received a power failure and restarted without a proper shutdown.  Now Adobe reader just blinks when I try to open it.  I uninstalled the reader and the ebook and restarted my laptop.  I then reinstalled Adobe Reader but the problem still exists.  How can I fix Adobe Digital Reader.
