Adobe gives error and shuts down when returning Overdrive library books

Hi, Ii have cleaned most of the books from my Adobe Digital Editions and have tried to return some books I have read.  I get an error "cannot return book" so I click OK.  Then get the "Adobe Needs to Shut down error" and it shuts down.  Is there some way I can avoid this?  Operating system is Windows10.
