Bookmark problems

I'm using Adobe Digital Editions to read an eBook from the library. When I stop reading I place a bookmark, but when I reopen to continue reading it opens to the bookmarked page and then immediately goes to the beginning of the book and the bookmark disappears. So I have to scroll all the way through the book to get back to where I last stopped reading.
