Bookmarks disabled with library copy

I'm blind, using JAWS screen reader. ADE works well enough, but my Digital Edition 4.5 shows bookmarks disabled in text when I push the applications key to bring up a menu. Hitting CTRL B doesn't do a thing. Naturally, I can't navigate to find any bookmark icon. Fun.

Do I need to register this ADE installation or something to make bookmarks work?
