can't authroize digital edition 3.0

Hello,

I was advised to download digital editions 3.0 to resolve issue with my kobo library purchases. The new software will not activate as it says it can't activate this software with Adobe ID as it has been used. Do I need to deactivate old software before I can activate new software. Can some please help me.
