Can't open ADE 4.0.3 on Win XP after succesful installation

Hello,

I successfully installed ADE 4.0.3 on a Win XP computer but can't open the application. I will get the message:

"Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

What can be done?

Please try the below mentioned steps:

  1. Rename to folder "My Digital Editions" under Documents folder.
  2. Launch ADE

Also like to mention here, ADE 4.0.x is compatible with Win7, for more details Tech Specs | Adobe Digital Editions

Hi

Since you are using Windows XP your computer is fairly old.  With our old XP computer with an AMD 2800 processor I had to use ADE 1.72, even ADE 2.0 would not install and I got the same error message.  I believe 1.72 is still available at:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403051/attachments/setup.exe

First uninstall ADE 4 before trying to install 1.72.
