Can't open an ebook I previously used after reformatting computer

Question

I recently reformatted my Mac and reinstalled the Adobe Digital Editions app. I am trying to open an ebook I had used before (prior to the reformatting of the Mac) by opening the .acsm file that I have saved. However,  it won't let me open it, saying that "E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER." Please advise.

Can anyone help me with this?

As an update, I contacted Adobe support directly several times, but they kept telling me (frrom different representatives) that Adobe does not offer tech support for Adobe Digital Editions (how is that even possible, since Adobe made this software) and kept referring me to the forum, which is why I am posting here.
