Cannot deauthorize ADE on Mac (no activation.dot file)

Hi everyone, 

I recently migrated to a new Macbook and ever since I have been unable to use Adobe Digital Editions. I am simply unable to authorize it. I get an error when I try it on the software. And when I look for the "activation.dot" file in my Application Support folder, I get nothing. There is no Digital Editions folder, there are no hidden files. Nothing. And now I'm stuck. 

Has anyone managed to find a solution for it?

    One thing that did work was downloading an earlier version of ADE (4.0) but obviously this is not ideal. So I'd appreciate any help on this front.
