Cannot download books from Google Play, says E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN

I can't download any book from Google Play, after using the ACSM file ADE says:

Error getting Licence. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:

I'm pretty sure this is a bug in ADE which is unable to handle the reply it gets from Google servers, which instead of giving it the data, reply with a redirect to https. I'm attaching a screenshot from wireshark that illustrates the issue. ADE receives the redirect but instead of following it, it just gives up. 😞
