Deauthorizing With an Obsolete Email Address

I am having what seems to be an unsurmountable problem. I recently can’t get a license for free books I download from the University of Chicago.

The error I get is:

“Unable to Download

Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:

E_ACT_NOT_READY”

Help recommends deauthorizing and reauthorizing my computer. However, I can’t remember my password, and I originally authorized my computer with an email address that I no longer have access to, so Adobe can’t send me a message to reset my password. I can’t be the only one who has an obsolete email address and needs to reset their authorization. Any ideas?
