Digital Editions 1.5 arrow keys

Hi, the scroll buttons (the arrow keys) work for a while (maybe 45 minutes) then they will all of a sudden not work at all. Similar for the pgup and pgdown. Restarting DE fixes this, but I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem. And, I am sure that I am in the program itself, because I click it to make sure, I think this may be some kind of bug. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Ah, same problem now with Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 on Windows 7, on Tabletkiosk.

No problems on another old desktop pc with Windows XP ... but I need the tablet working ...

Perhaps a important detail is also that the ADE on the tablet is not yet assigned to any user or ID.

    Hoping for a solution ...

Several people (but not all) have arrow key or related page turn problems on ADE2.0.

I'm not sure why it works for some but not for others; it isn't which Windows/Mac OS version and I don't think it is to do with registration.

There are myriad other bugs in 2.0/2.0.1 as well.

Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.

(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)

Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html

The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172

Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.

It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.

Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

Hi, Just for the record I would like to register my discontent on this issue as well. I installed DE 1.7 a few days ago. (Didn't really have a choice I might add what with the DRM...)

The first read within the first five minutes the arrow keys and PgUp/PgDn just stopped responding. They work again, briefly, if you restart the application. I am running Windows Vista.

Adobe have plenty goodwill in my book from their normally great software, so this has been a real real surprise.

    Hi,
I have DE 1.7.2.1131 in the german version on Win 7 64-bit. The problem still exists. It seems, if there is a kind of counter in the "optimal width" modus.

If you press and hold the arrow down key DE scrolls through the document for about 17 Pages an then stops. After this the arrow keys haven't any function. I hope anyone can confirm this to help the Adobe software engineers to locate and fix this bug.

Yup. Same problem here, and it has been that way for a looonnnnng time. This bug simply cannot be that difficult for Adobe to reproduce. I mean, if I lived near to wherever this app is developed, I would gladly bring my laptop in while the bug is manifesting itself (if that would help).

It is a testament to the sad current state of the ebook world that we are mostly held hostage to Adobe DRM stuff. Some sad-sack book readers (e.g. Kobo) even rely on DE manage pdf content, AFAIK. Moreover, even without this bug DE is, in my opinion, a rather mediocre app. I have come to despise Flash apps generally, but I avoid DE as much as I can. Also, although I mostly use a Mac, lack of linux support for DE really annoys me.

I just bought my first DRM pdf, and came across this problem.

I'm using win 7 64 bit, and I'm also experiencing problems with the mouse scroll wheel not working at all.

Restarting DE will allow me to use the arrows on the keyboard, but I havn't managed to get my scroll to work at all (ms wireless mouse using intellipoint drivers)

Same problem more than 2 years after original post.

The developers should be ashamed of themselves.

    This software is garbage.

I'm using the latest 1.7 edition, it's nearly Xmas 2010 and still this problem hasn't been fixed.

To Adobe: Your homepage states we'll 'get answers fast'.

If you want people to read in DE, fix this problem. Otherwise people will purchase ebooks in alternative formats.

Please do the professional thing and fix this.

If you don't look into this you aren't doing your job properly... and what goes around comes around.

Just started using Adobe DE 1.7 (latest) and came across the same issue with arrow keys that stop working after some time.

Has anyone actually reported this as a bug?? I have tried, but could not find Adobe DE on the list of Products for which a bug can be reported

Also in Release Notes for this latest release of DE (1.7.2) http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/pdfs/digital_editions_release_notes.pdf

there is no mention of this issue, so I doubt any Adobe DE dev is working on it...also judging by the lifetime of this issue (2 years +)...

Still happens. OS X 10.6.1 and DE 1.7.1.10. Arrow keys stop working but scrollbar arrows work (with the mouse).

No amount of mouse-clicking or other gestures cures this; must restart DE.

I also just posted this in response to another thread; sorry about the duplication.

It seems to be a little more complicated than previous posts show. When holding the down arrow key pressed doesn't seem to produce an effect, it actually does, as can be seen when restarting the application. The last page viewed will be centered in the view, but at a location that seems to be affected by the amount of time the down arrow key was pressed before exiting the application.

It therefore seems to be a problem in the drawing part of the application, as the internal reference to which section of the page is shown on the screen is correctly updated.

I also recently posted this in a related thread.

    Regards,

    Anders

PS. I am using DE 1.7 on Win XP professional.

I've experienced the same problem on two different computers, both running Windows XP.  Please give an update on the status of this bug.  It's extremely frustrating to pay for protected content (digital textbook in my case) that only works on one type of reader and to find that that content is hardly useable because of bugs in the software.  I have to constantly close out Digital Editions, restart it, resize the text and find my place.  Again, very frustrating.

Using Adobe Digital Edition 1.7.1, the very same problem still persists. Too bad I can check out most of the e-books from the library only in Adobe DRM format, I would never every buy an e-book with Adobe DRM

A thread about the same bug is located here:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7365b

I just thought I would link these together, and try to keep the information connected. I'm surprised this bug has been around for so long; it must really be nestled somewhere deep for you guys and gals to not have found it yet. That, or you're understaffed/overworked and haven't found time to track it down :P

Regardless, good luck to the devs!
