Digital Editions 4.5 authorization not working

I'm trying to authorize ADE on new Macbook Pro 2020. The dialogue window hangs "Please wait while your computer is being authorized". Everything is frozen and I can only Force Quit ADE. I have tried dragging the activation.dat folder to the trash, doesn't help.
