Digital Editions Authorize Device error

Installed Adobe Digital Editions

Open an e-book and choose "Open in Digital Editions"

Brings up the Authorize Your Device page. Type in Adobe ID and password. Click Authorize.

Error msg: Digital Editions could not connect to the activation server. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet.

I am connected to the Internet.
