Digital Editions crashes when I attempted to download or open a borrowed library book

Adobe Digital Editions just installed v4.0 on a new computer and tried to download a library book from NYPL. It shows status as "0 of 0" pages read, which suggests there's no actual content? Then, when I try to open it, Digital Editions shuts down. Help!

I uninstalled DE 4.0 and went back to 3.0. So far, that seems better. I'd been using DE on an older laptop for ages and only encountered this problem when I installed the newest version on this new laptop.
