Digital Editions does not 'see' my Sony e-reader so I cannot authorize it.

I have the latest DE software (reinstalled) and an Adobe login but can't figure out how to transfer the authorization to the reader. It does not appear on the left of the ADE screen when I connect it to my computer.  The computer is authorized.
