Digital Editions - Kobo

I have a Kobo e-reader which was working on this lap top on Windows 8. it then went to Windows 10, it continued to download books from the library through overdrive for a while then gave up.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both latest and older versions and it just freezes up on me and I have to force closure. I have tried on-line chat but this was a waste of time. I was able to download onto my kobo via a friends lap top so it is not the e-reader at fault.  An suggestions?
