Download books from library and transfer to Sony Reader

I have tried all suggestions found in Library's Overdrive site and also in Adobe Digital Editions site. Problems remain. Either the transfer from ADE is blocked with error messages or once transferred into reader, I receive "Protected by DRM" and cannot open book.  I love my Sony PRS-950 but I am about to buy a Kindle at this point. Any help appreciated.
