Download from Google Books?

I cannot download purchased ebooks from Google  Books, although I was able to download a free book recently. The error message I get is

IO Error on Network Request.

Please check your network connection and try again.

I have consulted Google books who say it is a problem with ADE

I've contacted Adobe Customer support, who told me to deactivate and reactivate my computer, but I wasn't able to do this. The latest advice is to try here.

This has been a problem since I accepted an update of the program some months ago.

If I uninstall the program and install the most recent version will I lose the books I currently have?
