"E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TOO_SHORT" - 5 of the 17 books purchased from Sainsbury's Books give me this error

I'm using a pc running XP. 5 of the 17 books purchased from Sainsbury's eBooks give me the "E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TOO_SHORT" error when trying to download in Adobe Digital Editions, however those books appear to download fine on my iPad running the Sainsbury's eBooks app.

Sainsbury's have suggested I delete all traces of the problem books from my computer and try again, but as far as I can see the books in question do not get as far as downloading and therefore do not leave any trace at all.

I'm not sure exactly where the problem lies. Any ideas?
