E_IO_CANNOT_OPEN Macbook (Catalina OS), Adobe Digital Editions version 4.5.11

On my Macbook (Catalina OS) while everything has been working properly for years, I have had the following message for a few weeks: Unable to download E_IO_CANNOT_OPEN when trying to open newly downloaded acsm files (epubs) from the municipal library.

Adobe Digital Editions version 4.5.11.187245.

I have another Mac and no problems.

Deleting Adobe and its directories, using Onyx Maintenance and reinstalling the application did not fix the pb.

Do you have any solutions?

    I'm having the same issue on High Sierra and it just started recently for no apparent reason. If anyone knows what's going on your help would be most appreciated.

    I don't have a solution but rather the same problem! I'm using a MacBook running Big Sur OS. I'm receiving the same error message out of the blue, after using Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 to download ebooks from the Overdrive library website. I've also deleted, reinstalled, reuathorized and every other "quick" fix but nothing has made a difference. Following this hoping someone has the answer. Thank you!
