eBook downloaded with Adobe DE can't be read in Kobo ebook reader

A book downloaded from Booktopia via Adobe Digital Editions, thus being authorised, and copied to the Kobo ebook reader can't be read because trying to open it in the ereader receives a message - Oops! you need to sign in with Adobe ID. What am I doing wrong?
