ebook downloads open Adobe Reader instead of Adobe Digital Editions; error message

When downloading an ebook Adobe Reader opens and an error message says file type not supported or damaged.

With that I am not able to loan any books from public libraries.

I recently had an update for Adobe Reader which seem to now by default gets connected to the ebooks.

How could I change this?
