ereader loan token not found

When I checkout an ebook from the library and, download it to my ereader I am unable to open the ebook because it says no loan token found. I have removed and re- installed adobe digital editions and have authorized both my computer and ereader, but when i try to open the ebook to read it I get the message loan token not found. Also when i have to return the ebook because I was unable to read it the ebook is still on my erader and have no idea how to permantly remove it from my ereader.
