Error! Check Activation

Attempted to download a free ebook from Adobe to determine if ADE 4.0.3 works correctly so that I can get the ebook to my Nook.  I am greeted with "Error! Check Activation"  It "appears" that everything in my ADE is set up correctly.  I have a Adobe ID and Adobe Help tells me that it recognizes my computer.  How does one Check Activation?
