Error getting License. E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER

I have recently downloaded a new version of ADE and installed it on my computer. I borrowed a library book several days ago and it downloaded and opened in ADE without problem. Today I borrowed another book from the public library system and have downloaded it to my iPad into the Overdrive app. Tonight I wished to read it on my Mac so I downloaded the ACSM file and opened it in Digital Editions, but I am now getting the error message:

Unable to download.

Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:

E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER

I have reauthorised and reauthorised my computer, I have also tried using my public library card number/password to authorise ADE for Overdrive rather than using my Adobe ID. None of the strategies worked.

I can find nothing in the help documentation to indicate that one is only allowed to borrow a book on one device or computer, and this is something I have done in the past, so what else can I do to solve this problem?

I get the same error massage, but with a slightly different wording.

    Windows:

        Close all applications.

        Choose Start > Run.

In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

        Select the Adept key.

        Choose File > Export.

In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.

Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

        Close the Registry Editor.

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

    Macintosh:

        quit Adobe Digital Editions.

Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

If you are using 10.7, see https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

I have now redownloaded Digital Editions and found that, although an ePub file for a different borrowed ebook is in the Digital Editions folder, and it appears in my library in ADE, it will no longer open the book as: No record for this loan is found on this machine. At the moment ADE is virtually unusable on my Mac as it cannot find or open books borrowed from a public library.

At the moment Library and Mac and DIgital Edition not right work. Only the Version 1.7 seems right work: Adobe Digital Editions Download
