"Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY"

When I download a library book, I get the error message "Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY", as well as when I try to authorize my copy of digital editions to my account (in an attempt to deal with this.) I have used it to view ebooks from my college library successfully, though not recently.

Help?

That error usually means Adobe Digital Editions (or your ebook reader) can’t properly reach or sync with the Adobe license server.

Common fixes:

  • Check internet connection / firewall / VPN (they can block license requests)
  • Make sure your system date & time are correct
  • Deauthorize & reauthorize Adobe Digital Editions
  • Update to the latest version of Adobe Digital Editions
  • Try signing out/in again or reinstalling the app if it persists

In short, it’s a server communication + authorization sync issue, not the ebook itself.

This error in Adobe Digital Editions means it can’t connect to the license server.
Fix it by re-authorizing your Adobe ID (Ctrl+Shift+D → sign in again) or reinstalling the app.

I've tried this several times on Windows. It's not working for me.

Bless this community for trying to help fellow users out of the muck, and shame on Adobe for leaving its users stranded. For years — years — Digital Editions has been the buggiest, most unstable software program on the planet. The fact that Adobe can't be bothered to fix or rebuild it is a disgrace.

I still cannot get this to work.

I get the same error message. "Error getting license Server communications problem: E_ADEPT_INTERNAL"

I followed the Windows process to remove the registry file etc...

I shut down and reinstalled and went around the loop for about two hours.

I just do not know what to do...

Please help... I have several papers to write this week for University and I'm stuck.

Thank you,

Teresa Aysan

While this works on my MacBookAir, it only works once, and then revers back to giving the error message.  Is there a permanent solution or evey time that I want to download an ebook am I going to need to deauthorize, delete the library file and reauthorizemy computer?  It seems like there should be a better way...

For Macintosh users, how exactly do you navigate to /users//library/application support/Adobe/Digital Editions?

What about how to solve the same problem for the app on Android?

I just installed Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.1. For some reason, it automatically authorized itself using an email address that was my Adobe ID 15 years ago. When I try to de-authorize this long ao no longer working or relevant email, which is no longer my Adobe ID, it asks for a password. I do not have that password from 15 years ago (!) and I need urgently to get this Adobe Digital Editions authoroized with my CORRECT and CURRENT Adobe ID and password. I would have thought that this programe would have noted and used the CORRECT Adobe ID, given that my Adobe Creative Cloud was up and running tbhroughout this entire 'attempted installation' process. Any fast and efficient help will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.
