Error Message - Check Activation

Hello:

I have been using Adobe Digital Edition ( currently Version 4.5) for a number of years to download ebooks from my local library without any problems.  However, I was not able to open any ebooks I downloaded from the library lately, with an error message - Check Activation.

Could anyone help me out with this issue?  I have tried contacting Adobe Support and was referred here.  Thanks.
