error message when downloading ebooks

I cannot open any downloaded books on my computer- I am getting an error message

c:users/mom/downloads/(name of book) .acsm application not found

I unistalled adobe and reinstalled but it keeps happening

I have gone through all the programs on my computer and uninstalled any that look suspicious

what can I do-?
